AIE President to open SEMINAIE on the occasion of World IP Day

World Intellectual Property Day (April 26) will be marked this year under the theme “IP and Music: Accelerating Creativity.”

April 21, 2025 – This coming Saturday, April 26, marks World Intellectual Property Day, which this year puts music center stage. Under the theme “IP and music: feel the beat of IP,” the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) highlights how creativity and innovation, backed by intellectual property rights, help sustain a musical landscape that benefits everyone, everywhere.

AIE joins in this celebration by aligning the 21st edition of its legal seminar with this significant date. The seminar will take place on Friday, April 25, at Palau Macaya in Barcelona.

AIE’s president, Luis Cobos, will open the event, which will focus on the development of music in the digital environment. Two panel discussions have been organized—“The digital environment and legal measures” and “Towards new models of music consumption”—featuring notable experts offering perspectives from legal, artistic, technical, and economic angles. The seminar will be directed by Álvaro Hernández-Pinzón, AIE’s Director of Global Business. You can consult the full program and register to attend, either in person or via streaming, here.

Three roundtables

In addition, AIE will take part in three roundtable discussions scheduled to mark this important occasion. The first will take place on Wednesday, April 23, at the Pons Foundation, focusing on “The evolution of the music industry | AI: technological inspiration or unfair competition?Álvaro Hernández-Pinzón and Diego Zavala, Business Development & Neighbouring Rights Specialist, will join other panelists in examining the impact of artificial intelligence on the music ecosystem.

AIE will also participate in the official event hosted by the Ministry of Culture on Monday, April 28, at the National Library of Spain.

There, Hernández-Pinzón will join a roundtable titled “Music and intellectual property rights,” while AIE’s Vice President—singer, guitarist, and composer Nacho García Vega—will participate in another session titled “The remuneration of artists and music authors in the digital environment.”

IP and music: Feel the beat of IP

With beats that make us dance and lyrics that move and connect us to our deepest emotions, musical creation enriches every part of our lives. Music is a universal form of creative expression, and intellectual property rights play a key role in fostering a vibrant and diverse musical landscape.

Music is present across all industries, and intellectual property helps expand its presence far beyond its traditional realm. Whether in film, entertainment, technology, fashion, gaming, or consumer goods, IP rights strengthen music’s cross-sector reach, enable creative synergies and innovation across industries, and drive economic growth.(https://www.wipo.int/es/web/ipday/2025/index)
