Adepi presents the 2024 Intellectual Property Awards
Adepi, the Association for the Development of Intellectual Property, which represents Spain’s collective rights management organizations and of which the Society of Artists AIE is a member, held its annual Awards ceremony yesterday. The 2024 edition honored Frances Moore, former CEO of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), and the International Literary and Artistic Association (ALAI). Additionally, Tomás Fernando Flores, director of Radio 3, received the Adepi Cultural Dissemination Award, presented for the first time this year.
The Adepi Prize was established in 2019 to recognize the work of individuals and institutions who defend intellectual property rights in general and collective rights management in particular, facilitating the work of authors, artists, publishers, and producers from other fields such as politics, education, economics, or law, and contributing to ensuring that they can continue creating culture within a fair and sustainable framework.
Lawyer Frances Moore was appointed in 1994 as regional director for Europe at IFPI. As the head of the Federation for the past thirteen years, Moore has led the recording industry through its digital transition, raising awareness among policymakers worldwide about the importance of protecting intellectual property rights on the internet.
The International Literary and Artistic Association (ALAI), founded in Paris by Victor Hugo in 1878, promotes the international recognition of the legal protection required for intellectual work, developing tools to protect the rights of creators, especially through the organization of congresses and study days dedicated to the comprehensive analysis of copyright law.
Additionally, this year a new prize was awarded to recognize cultural dissemination efforts, which was given to Tomás Fernando Flores, director since 2023 of Radio 3, the music and cultural channel of RTVE. In recent years, Radio 3 has established itself as a media outlet fully dedicated to culture, creativity, and innovation and has been particularly active in defending intellectual property and supporting creators.
The awards were presented at a gala held yesterday, Wednesday, July 3, at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid, presided over by the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun.
