AIE affiliates are entitled to a series of rights when their musical works are used in Spain and in other countries of the world. In order to collect these rights, AIE holds reciprocity agreements with the management entities that represent performers in different countries. By means of these agreements, management entities across the world can exchange the necessary information with the help of international databases, identify performers and match them with their performances, and verify this information with the relevant management societies of each country with which performers are affiliated.
Afterwards, the corresponding remuneration is exchanged with the relevant foreign management entities and included in the annual distributions these entities carry out among their legitimate recipients.
In this way, AIE members are obtaining remuneration for the use of their musical interpretations or executions in the world’s major countries. As of 1 November 2024, AIE holds 111 reciprocity agreements with 81 entities from 58 countries. This means that virtually all countries with legal systems committed to the protection of performers rights hold an agreement with AIE.
